With a desire to build new skills and explore fresh career paths, Jamie Warboyes, from Newham, joined the Adult Skills Fund London in March 2024 after being unemployed for four years.
Having previously worked in the retail sector, 34-year-old Jamie was keen to explore new opportunities but faced significant barriers, mainly anxiety and low confidence, especially when it came to group work and communicating with others.
Although he was keen to progress, one of his main concerns before starting his training was not knowing what to expect, however, with the guidance and support of his tutor, Jayna Gore, Jamie began to feel more comfortable, building trust in his abilities.
With Jayna’s patience and encouraging approach, alongside his engagement in group activities, Jamie began to feel more confident in sharing ideas and working with others.
Jamie successfully completed three courses: Customer Service Level 1, Business and Administration Level 1, and Business and Administration Level 2, gaining valuable soft skills, like teamwork and communication, and up-to-date qualifications.
With a renewed sense of motivation and up-to-date qualifications, Jamie now hopes to pursue a role in customer service or administration, and he’s determined to improve his career prospects and remain optimistic about what lies ahead.
Reflecting on his journey, Jamie shared: “I’m very grateful for the time and support from Jayna. She has helped me with the three courses I’ve completed and has been patient and understanding which has helped build my confidence.”
With a clearer direction, improved skills, and the confidence to move forward, Jamie now feels ready to take the next step in his career journey and is focused on progressing into work.
